LiquidPlanner: Schedule and plan work with your team review

7.5Expert Score
LiquidPlanner is a project management system that promotes a few standard project management approaches to users with a focus on predictive scheduling. In practice, it works well, and users will understand how strong project management processes lead to predicting work. It does this with portfolios, and projects and contains them in unique workspaces. With a few areas to polish, we feel LiquidPlanner has a lot to offer to small and medium-sized organisations. Have a look at the Total Software Info review of LiquidPlanner and see if this is the tool to help you predict workload!

What is LiquidPlanner?

A predictive scheduling solution like no other!

LiquidPlanner is a work management and project management solution that aims to be a predictive scheduling tool. With the use of workspaces, projects and packages the tool aims to help you predict and plan with confidence.

For most, LiquidPlanner follows quite a traditional portfolio and project management approach. This is good for users familiar with this. It also helps new users to follow well laid out processes.

For example, the scheduling engine essentially is the same as using templates in many project management tools. Have your project template set up with all the tasks, and estimate times. Then when you use the template, the system calculates the end date of the project based on the start date. So it’s a great feature, but not anything new.

For MS Project users, the use of success and predecessor will be familiar. For other tools, this is task dependency blocked or blocking. And for new users, this is where a project has many tasks, but you can’t start one task until the one before is finished. Or your task blocks the next ones from starting.

The layout of projects and tasks is simple as well. Within your project view, you can see Dashboard, Project, Workload, Board, Grid, Search and Changes.
When planning your tasks, the workload is useful to see how much time your resources have. Again, this is part of standard project management.

We also like that in the Grid view of projects, you can download your list of tasks with key info such as total work, logged, % complete and other fields you might need to download and provide with a project update. especially for users not in your LiquidPlanner account.

Diving into the system function and use a bit. We see there is a new version (the one we used) and an older version. There may be some things to polish in the new one.
For example, the new Academy for learning is great, with nice videos. But we couldn’t find any info on the API.

Then also, going into the system, finding integrations didn’t have too much luck. And we even found a broken link here: https://www.liquidplanner.com/support/developer-resources-integrations/ – at the time, this does not load for us but is part of integration info for LiquidPlanner.

Now there are probably other areas, but this was the main one for us. So although we have gone through and seen the API as being very good. This simple part of connecting it to the user interface may cause some problems and needs to be fixed.

LiquidPlanner doesn’t have a mobile app as well, which is less common with project management systems. The website does load what is called “responsive”, works on mobile and is usable, with a little bit of side-scrolling where needed.

With that covered, let’s have a look at the Total Software Info that we have resources for and see how LiquidPlanner can predict workload for you!
